Each of these outdoor concerts begin at 7:00 pm on the College Green adjacent to Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. \n  \nThe UNDER the ELMS Concert Band\, or “Communiversity Band\,” is comprised of Ohio University faculty\, students\, and alumni\, as well as community members from Athens and surrounding communities. The ensemble rehearses one night a week prior to each performance. The Music Director and Principal Conductor of UNDER the ELMS is Ohio University’s Director of Bands\, Dr. Andrew Trachsel. \nAll of these events\, generously supported by Ohio University and the College of Fine Arts\, are open to all and free to the public. In the event of rain\, concerts will be held in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs\, blankets\, and picnics to the concerts. \nJune 27 “Music of the Night”: Music from stage and screen with John Schlabach and Josh Nightingale\, trumpet. Professor of Trumpet John Schlabach and one of his former graduate students\, Joshua Nightingale\, will both play features for solo trumpet that tie in with the theme of music from the movies and musicals. DESCRIPTION:Children ages 6-12 are invited to participate in the Ross County Historical Society’s 2018 Summer Children’s program titled “Becoming an Apprentice: Making a Living in Early Ohio.” Participants will travel back in time to when children learned trades under the guidance of master craftsmen. Children will engage in hands-on activities learning the historical trades of the carpenter\, the tailor\, the seamstress\, and the rope maker. The experience will include making crafts to take home and enjoy. Participants willl also participate in popular outdoor children’s games of the 1800s. Refreshments will be served. \n\nCost: Payment required – Registration is $10 and includes a year’s membership to the Ross County Historical Society’s Junior Member Program. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the inaugural edition of “Crafty Saturdays\,” an afternoon of upcycling crafts for all ages! Next weekend\, Saturday\, August 11th\, our craft will be focused on creating yarn from t-shirts (“tarn”)\, and making flowers from it!  Light refreshments will be served. \nEvent will be held under a tent in the parking lot of 751 West Union St\, Athens Ohio\, by Athens Janitorial Supply (follow Union St till it passes Rt 682 and turns into Rt 56). \nSit in the shade\, sip lemonade with a cookie\, and craft an everlasting bouquet to brighten up your home! \nInformation about Athens Makerspace will be available\, including tours\, upcoming classes\, and how to become an instructor. Crafty Saturdays will be a recurring event; each will feature a different upcycling activity. Stay tuned for future afternoons upcycling old books\, fabric scraps\, buttons\, and more. \nThis is a free\, kid-friendly event. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend the 44th Annual Athens Invitational Marching Festival on Saturday\, October 14 at 10:00am at Athens High School’s Basil Rutter Field! This festival is the 3rd longest running marching band festival in the state of Ohio. High School bands from Southeast and Central Ohio will travel in to perform at this prestigious event! Bands scheduled to perform include: Southern\, Nelsonville-York\, Shawnee\, Chillicothe\, Bishop Watterson\, Berne Union\, Groveport Madison\, and Athens. The festival is sponsored by the Athens Band Boosters\, Kiwanis Club of Downtown Athens\, and Chauncey-Dover Lions. Admission is $5 and proceeds go to benefit these community organizations. We look forward to seeing you at this exciting musical event!
