SUMMARY:Youth Winter Series
DESCRIPTION:Water\, Water Everywhere! \nWhat is a watershed? Find out what watershed you live in and how many there are in Washington County. You may live in more than one! Learn about the history of our waterways\, the different boats that travel up and down the rivers and their cargo. It is amazing how the rivers have changed since the early settlers first arrived. You will be surprised at how many states drain into the Ohio River! We will also look at the natural environments of the rivers and what we can do to help protect them. Something for everyone! \nEach student should bring their own lunch. \n$30 for the day or $75 if purchasing all three programs in the series. FOM Members will receive $5 off the day price or $10 off when purchasing all three programs.\nStudents participating on all three dates will receive a free t-shirt! \nSeries Dates:\nSaturday\, January 25\, 2020\nSaturday\, February 22\, 2020\nSaturday\, March 28\, 2020 \nThis event is sponsored by the Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen.

SUMMARY:Rural Action Owl Prowl 2020
DESCRIPTION:Knock Knock\, hoo’s there? Join Rural Action for the Sunday Creek Owl Prowl. \nHave you ever heard an owl’s call but never seen one? Wondered how an owl pinpoints a tiny shrew on the forest floor? Join Rural Action at the 2020 Sunday Creek Owl Prowl taking place on Wednesday\, February 19th at 6:00 pm at Burr Oak State Park Lodge. Don’t miss this unparalleled environmental education opportunity to learn about owls that live in southeast Ohio. \nBring the kids and let them inspect an owl pellet for bones or create an owl-themed craft at 5:30 pm. At 6:00 pm Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) naturalist Pat Quackenbush will give a short presentation on owl adaptations. Participants will also be able to see a live owl during the presentation. Stick around for a short walk outside as we call these magnificent nocturnal predators in hopes of hearing them or even catching a glimpse of an owl in the wild. \nThere will be a complimentary meal of soup beans and cornbread before the event at 5:30 pm provided by Burr Oak Lodge. Hot chocolate and cookies will also be served. Burr Oak Lodge is located at 10660 Burr Oak Lodge Rd.\, Glouster\, OH 45732. Please dress for the weather\, bring a flashlight or headlamp if you desire\, and remember it’s important to be quiet so we don’t scare the owls away. This event is family-friendly and free. \nRural Action is a regional community development organization with a 21-county footprint working with members and community leaders on a range of quality of life\, environmental\, and economic projects across rural Appalachian Ohio. Its mission is to build a more just economy by developing the region’s assets in socially\, financially\, and environmentally sustainable ways. Rural Action’s watershed program works with communities to address acid mine drainage and other water quality concerns throughout the region. \n  \nCONTACT \nLydia Beardsley \nRural Action Watershed Restoration \nAmeriCorps Member \nlydia@ruralaction.org \n(740) 767-2225 \n  \n  \n
