Works to be performed include Christmas Fanfare\, Only in sleep\, Christmas Variations\, In The Bleak Midwinter\, Medieval Christmas\, Carol Fantasy\, Christmas Song\, Winter Wonderland\, and Twelve Days. \nThe brass band performs a variety of music encompassing several genres and styles including traditional brass band music from England and North America\, original pieces arranged specifically for the band\, musicals\, marches\, orchestral transcriptions\, Salvation Army Band music\, and popular selections. In addition to the annual Christmas concert\, the band also performs a fall concert\, a spring concert\, and performs in Charleston\, WV for Symphony Sunday\, the annual fundraiser for the West Virginia Symphony\, on the first Sunday in June.

DESCRIPTION:Musicians from all over the region will be gathering on Saturday\, December 14 at the historic Ariel Opera House in Gallipolis\, Ohio for the 12th annual Ariel Merry TubaChristmas. This 2 p.m. concert is part of a nationwide celebration of low brass music created by Harvey Phillips. Now in its 51st year\, Merry TubaChristmas is presented in over 250 cities throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. In an unusual turn of events\, the concert itself is free to everyone but the participants pay to perform as per the request of Phillips himself to provide funding to continue the tradition throughout the country.\n\nPhillips was inspired to create TubaChristmas as an annual event honoring his teacher\, the late great tubist William J. Bell who was born on Christmas day in 1902. Every Christmas season\, tuba and euphonium players of all ages gather to pay respect to all the great artists and teachers who represent their heritage. Every TubaChristmas performance features traditional Christmas carols especially arranged for low brass by American composer Alec Wilder who died on Christmas Eve 1980. Through Wilder\, TubaChristmas concerts pay grateful tribute to composers who have embraced these noble instruments with solo and ensemble compositions.\n\nTubaChristmas ensembles attract players from 8 to 80. The warm\, rich\, organ-like sound of the tuba-euphonium choir has won over the ears and hearts of every audience. It is no wonder that TubaChristmas has become an established Christmas tradition in cities throughout the world.\n\nNo tickets are needed for this free event at the Ariel located at 426 Second Ave. in downtown Gallipolis\, Ohio. DESCRIPTION:The Greater Huntington Symphonic and Jazz Bands will perform their annual free Christmas concert on Sunday\, December 22 at 4:00 p.m. in the Spring Valley High School auditorium. The jazz band is directed by Mr. Tom Chaffin and the symphonic band is directed by Mr. Matt Chaffins. \nThe symphonic band consists of approximately 50 members performing on various wind\, brass\, and percussion instruments. The jazz band has approximately 25 members\, all of whom are members of the symphonic band\, and performs standard jazz\, big band\, and jazz rock arrangements. Both groups typically perform four concerts per year throughout the tri-state including a spring concert\, the annual July patriotic concert in Ironton\, a fall pops concert\, and a Christmas concert.

DESCRIPTION:Stars that never fail to shine are at their brightest at Club 550\, Amesville\, Ohio!\nThe Ames-Bern Ridge Rounders and Village Productions invite you to experience an evening of music and dancing with 1920s flair. Dance instructor Ashley Joy will lead a free swing dance tutorial for beginners starting at 6:30. Check out her other local dance classes at https://www.ashleyteaches.com/. \n1920’s dress is encouraged but not required! \nThe Ames-Bern Ridge rounders play retro country\, western swing\, blues\, and jazz. All the ABRR musicians hail from the townships of Ames and Bern in and around Amesville\, Ohio. \nThis event is family-friendly\, free\, and open to the public. This will be an opportunity for East Coast Swing. Other types of dancing are also encouraged (you do you!)! All music lovers are welcome to come and listen. Bring playing cards if that’s your thing! \nDonations appreciated.\nJackie O’s beer available for purchase. \nLocation and parking information:\nVillage Productions is located in the former Grange building next to the Amesville Post Office at 16 State Street\, (SR 550) Amesville\, Ohio\, 45711. The event will be held in the Village Productions Studio which is upstairs. Park between the post office and Village Productions. DESCRIPTION:The Cassatt Quartet performs at Ohio University’s Glidden Hall as part of their 40th anniversary season\, with a free concert featuring string quartets by Shostakovich and Dorothy Rudd Moore\, along with Brahms’s Piano Quintet in F Minor\, for which the quartet will be joined by pianist – and Ohio University piano faculty –  Emely Phelps. \n\n\nHailed for its “mighty rapport and relentless commitment\,” the Cassatt String Quartet has performed throughout the world for four decades\, with appearances at Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall; Tanglewood Music Center; the Kennedy Center; Théâtre des Champs-Élysées; Centro National de las Artes; Maeda Hall; and Beijing’s Central Conservatory. \n\n\nTheir 2024-2025 season includes a busy schedule of performances in the U.S. and internationally\, including an Italian tour alongside guitarist Eliot Fisk; recording the great quartet Modes by Dorothy Rudd Moore\, alongside other string quartets by Black American women; teaching residencies at major universities and conservatories; and\, in proud Cassatt Quartet fashion\, premieres of important commissions\, including a piano quintet by Victoria Bond and a new work for string quartet by Joan Tower\, to be premiered at Maverick Concerts in September 2025. \n\n\nThe members of the Cassatt Quartet are violinists Muneko Otani and Jennifer Leshnower; violist Emily Brandenburg; and cellist Gwen Krosnick. The Quartet is named for Mary Cassatt\, the great 19th- and 20th-century painter who – in addition to being the only American to exhibit in Paris alongside the Impressionists – did devoted\, lifelong work in support of women’s equality and right to vote.

DESCRIPTION:Alla Boara\, an Italian folk ensemble from Cleveland consisting of female vocalist\, percussion\, acoustic bass\, guitar\, trumpet/flugelhorn and accordion/piano\, will perform on Sunday\, February 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Ohio University Southern Riffe Rotunda in Ironton. Admission is $15 with cash or check payable to the “Ironton Council for the Arts” at the performance. Ohio University Southern is handicap accessible. \nAlla Boara’s music is rooted in ancient\, regional Italian folk songs featuring several regional dialects. Some are lively and celebratory\, others are somber and wistful\, still others are playful and funny\, but all are impassioned. It is storytelling through song of the daily lives of these pre-industrial Italian peoples. Anthony Taddeo\, percussionist and ensemble founder\, has reimagined and modernized these beautiful songs into a rich musical tapestry combining folk\, ballad and jazz musical flavors.
