SUMMARY:Juggernaut Jug Band
DESCRIPTION:The Juggernaut Jug Band from Carrollton\, KY will open the 2026 portion of the Ironton Council for the Arts 2025-26 performance season on Sunday\, February 1 at 3 pm in the Ohio University Southern Bowman Auditorium. Admission is $15 payable at the performance with cash\, card\, or check payable to the “Ironton Council for the Arts” and admission is free for students and children of all ages. \nDedicated to preserving the music\, spirit and humor of the original Louisville Jug Bands of the early 1900’s\, the Juggernaut Jug Band was formed over thirty years ago. Today\, it is known as the only full-time touring jug band. \nWith the traditional instrumentation of guitars\, mandolins\, banjos\, bass and vocals\, jug bands added one strange twist—the sound of blowing the jug. If that wasn’t enough\, they topped it off with perhaps a washboard\, washtub bass\, kazoos\, nose flutes and whatever else was available. The Juggernauts have continued in this tradition of having fun. With each performance\, the band invites the audience to have as much fun as the band. Don’t let their antics fool you though! Their exuberant music is the result of skillful arrangements and unique vocal harmonies.

SUMMARY:Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds & Muskingum Wind Ensemble Concert (Voices of Change)
DESCRIPTION:NEW CONCORD\, OH — February 11\, 2026 — Muskingum University will present Voices of Change: Examining How the Arts Reflect and Shape Movements for Social Transformation\, a four-day series that brings together music\, visual art\, historical context\, and public dialogue to examine how creative expression can both reflect and influence movements for social transformation. Conceived collaboratively by the University’s Departments of Music\, History\, and Art & Design\, the series invites the campus and broader community to engage with questions of democracy\, representation\, identity\, and collective action through artistic and civic lenses. \nDesigned as an immersive interdisciplinary experience\, Voices of Change encourages participants to consider how culture and creativity serve as vehicles for human expression and agency. Events will take place from Sunday\, February 22 through Wednesday\, February 25\, at venues across campus and in the local community. \nVoices of Change Events\n\nSunday\, February 22\n\nMuskingum Valley Symphonic Winds & Muskingum Wind Ensemble Concert\, 3 p.m.\, Brown Chapel\n\n\n\nThe opening event features a joint performance by the Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds and the Muskingum University Wind Ensemble. The program includes works composed in honor of — or in tribute to — influential figures and transformative ideas\, including democracy\, Abraham Lincoln\, the Women’s Suffrage Movement\, the Tuskegee Airmen\, Rosa Parks\, and Marsha Johnson\, prominent trans rights activist. \n\nStudent Presentations & Reception\, 4 p.m.\, Palmer Gallery\n\nFollowing the concert\, attendees will be welcomed to the Palmer Gallery for a reception and student-curated exhibitions that engage artistically with the concert’s themes. \n\nMonday\, February 23\, 3:30 p.m.\, Palmer Gallery\n\nSafe Spaces\, Strong Voices: How underrepresented communities can claim their place at the table\n\n\n\nThis event focuses on the experiences\, resilience\, and cultural contributions of underrepresented communities\, with particular attention to the LGBTQ community and allies. Participants will explore how identity\, community\, and advocacy intersect within today’s social landscape. \n\nWednesday\, February 25\, 7 p.m.\, Palmer Gallery\n\nTwo by Two in Concert \n\n\n\nGiving new life to traditional folk music and gospel as well as bringing their own originals\, this guitar/piano/vocal duo plays everywhere from festivals to wineries\, restaurants to churches\, retirement homes to prisons\, and caves to open fields. They call central Ohio home but love traveling. \nAbout Voices of Change Series\nVoices of Change positions the arts not merely as reflections of society\, but as agents within it. Through performance\, visual interpretation\, critical dialogue\, and shared communal experience\, the series invites attendees to explore how creative practice participates in shaping civic life — and how cultural expression can inspire new understandings of justice\, equity\, and democratic participation. In addition to the public events listed above\, thoughtful discussion is taking place at a Fireside Chat that will explore broader themes about the arts’ role in the society. Students\, faculty\, and community members are engaging discussion designed to make the participants think deeply about how the arts help a society maintain its humanity in the digital age. \nAll events are free and open to the public and take place on the campus of Muskingum University. \nFor more information\, contact David Turrill\, dturrill@muskingum.edu.

SUMMARY:An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly Presented by the American Pops Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:PERFECT FOR THE KIDS! Join the APO for a family concert of music and fun on their regional tour of the madcap retelling of this classic children’s story. Watch as this old woman’s appetite for strange objects transforms her quiet afternoon into a wildly spectacular tale! \nSunday\, March 15th\, at 1:00 p.m. in Glidden Hall Room 101 \nThe APO was founded in 2015 with a mission to build community through music\, blending popular and classical genres in innovative ways to engage new and diverse audiences. Through live and virtual performances\, accessible educational initiatives and community collaborations\, APO makes the highest quality art for the broadest possible audiences. Seeing an opportunity to challenge the status quo of the repertoire a typical orchestra performs\, Founder and Music Director Luke Frazier\, created The American Pops with the intent of breaking the mold of the traditional pops orchestra. \nSince its inception\, APO has appeared in over 30 PBS Specials\, including Wicked in Concert\, Black Broadway\, and United in Song. Through non-traditional orchestral settings\, APO aims to deliver popular American classics to those who already know and love them\, while also introducing these timeless pieces to younger generations in approachable settings.

SUMMARY:Oyo Live in Concert at FVRC -w/ Special Guest: Jake Dunn
DESCRIPTION:From dimly lit barrooms to the footlights of festival stages\, Oyo weaves together threads of folk\, honky-tonk\, bluegrass\, and rock into a sound that feels both familiar and entirely their own. They’ve shared the stage with roots music heavyweights including Sierra Ferrell\, Town Mountain\, and Larry Keel\, and keep carving out their place in the tradition of stringband music – with songs that nod to good times\, wrong turns\, and the long road home.\nOyo trades off lead vocals between Aaron Martin (fiddle\, mandolin)\, Cole Adair (guitar) and Michael Bond (guitar\, keys\, harmonica\, spoons)\, with Bobby Rosenstock (banjo)\, Drew Tanner (bass)\, and Joe Ryckebosch (drums\, washboard) joining in.\n\nSpecial Guest Jake Dunn is opening this event.
