SUMMARY:Fall Migration Birding by Bike
DESCRIPTION:Join Rural Action’s newest social enterprise\, Appalachian Understories\, Guided Experiences in SE OH\, for a 12-mile guided bicycle tour through the winding back roads of Athens County. The tour will consist of 2 interpretive stops\, including Woodcock Nature Preserve\, where Badger Johnson will inform participants about efforts to create bird habitat throughout the preserve and offer a tour of the Chestnut tree orchard\, cotton alley cropping\, wildflower prairie\, and woodland trail with quaint bridges and ginseng. Participants will then ride to Fox Lake to meet bird enthusiast Joe Brehm\, who will lead a birding event.  Participants can anticipate seeing a variety of fall migratory species. Tour guide Madison Donohue will be riding with cyclists during the event.\n\nThe tour will start and end at the Big Oak shelter at Lake Snowden. This is a non-supported ride\, meaning participants should come prepared with personal bike repair kits and water. Participants should expect gravel roads\, some single track trail and 900 ft elevation gain. Helmets are required and minor children are permitted on this tour but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
