DESCRIPTION:The word about cover crops is reaching the public: these awesome plants enhance soil health\, crop yields\, weed control capabilities\, water quality\, and more. In practice\, however\, managing cover crops requires attention to complex factors such as species selection\, timing\, and termination. This workshop will specifically focus on small and medium-scale applications of cover crops with “organic no-till” principles–zero herbicides and minimal soil disturbance. We will review how tarps\, crimpers\, mowers\, and no-till planting techniques combine with multi-species cover crops for producing diverse food and market crops. We will participate in a hands-on demonstration on the use of a flail mower and an occultation tarp to terminate a cover crop\, and learn finer points of tarping technique and no-till planting. All of our human books are volunteers with personal experience with their topic. Each reading with a Book will last roughly 30 minutes each. \nWhat topics will the Books discuss? In the past\, the Human Library has hosted a variety of Books such as “Recovering Alcoholic\, Blind\, Native American\, Adopted\, Intersex\, Epileptic\, Environmental Activist\, Refugee\, Bipolar\, Autism\, Jewish\, Politician\, Victim of Stalking” and over a hundred more topics from all over the world! We can’t announce beforehand what specific topics/titles we’ll have at this event\, but we’ll have several to choose from!
