SUMMARY:Buckeye National Scenic Trail Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The National Park Service (NPS) is hosting an upcoming public comment period to gather input on the ongoing Buckeye National Scenic Trail Feasibility Study\, intended to evaluate the potential inclusion of the Buckeye Trail in the country’s National Trails System. \nCongress directed the Secretary of the Interior to study the feasibility and suitability of designating the Buckeye Trail as a National Scenic Trail. The NPS will be hosting six meetings for members of the public to learn more about the study. \nThe Buckeye Trail is an existing system of trails creating a loop extending approximately 1\,454 miles from Lake Erie to the Ohio River\, including the farmland of northwest Ohio\, the Bluegrass region of southwest Ohio\, the Black Hand sandstone cliffs of the Hocking Hills region\, and Hills of Appalachia. The trail was built from 1959 to 1980 by the Buckeye Trail Association\, a non-profit organization that still administers it. More than half of the Buckeye Trail route overlaps the North County National Scenic Trail route as it passes through Ohio. \nPUBLIC INVOLVEMENT \nAn important aspect of the study process is gathering information from the public about the trail\, including determining the level of support locally and from the general public\, and identifying any issues or concerns associated with this trail’s potential inclusion in the National Trails System. \nIn these public meetings\, NPS staff will share information about the study process\, including the criteria used to evaluate the trail for inclusion in the National Trails System\, and answer questions. \nThe public comment period will be open from January 6th to February 19th\, 2025\, and provides an opportunity the public to review the feasibility study process and share feedback regarding the study. \nDuring this time\, we invite individuals to review the project and provide input. DESCRIPTION:Weekly community group runs for runners and walkers of all abilities take place every Tuesday at 6:00pm at Ohio Valley Running Company (20 Station Street in Athens). Runs take place on the bikepath\, so you have the opportunity to go as short or as long as you’d like. Masks are not required during the run\, but we ask you to please wear your mask prior to the start of the run\, after the run\, and while in the store.

DESCRIPTION:It’s playtime at The Nest!\n\nBreak the routine\, get out of the house and come let your little ones play in a fresh space while you get to talk with other grown-ups for awhile!\n\nCome and go as you please anytime during our open play hours.  Toys and activities are geared towards babies and toddlers but older siblings are welcome to come along.\n\nWhile you’re here\, peruse the lending library of books\, DVDs and even baby carriers free to borrow!\n\nTuesdays masks are optional\, while Thursdays are mask-only for those who prefer a “mask-on” environment.\n\nDisinfectant wipes are always available and we have a tub for toys that have been “mouthed” so they can be washed before future use.\n\nA changing table and toddler potty are available as well as a bottle warmer and fridge for storing formula/milk.

DESCRIPTION:Thursdays in December\, join a small group for quiet meditation. Join us from noon to almost 1:00 at Serenity Roots Yoga and Wellness Center on Lavelle Rd. We will start with 20 minutes of quiet sitting (chairs and floor cushions provided) then we have the option of some walking meditation around the room\, followed by a return to quiet sitting. This time of calmness is being hosted by Athens KTC Buddhist Center\, though this Open Meditation is non-religious. Registration is not required\, anyone is welcome. SUMMARY:Greater Huntington Symphonic and Jazz Bands Christmas Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Greater Huntington Symphonic and Jazz Bands will perform their annual free Christmas concert on Sunday\, December 22 at 4:00 p.m. in the Spring Valley High School auditorium. The jazz band is directed by Mr. Tom Chaffin and the symphonic band is directed by Mr. Matt Chaffins. \nThe symphonic band consists of approximately 50 members performing on various wind\, brass\, and percussion instruments. They perform standard concert band arrangements representing multiple styles and genres. The jazz band has approximately 25 members\, all of whom are members of the symphonic band\, and performs standard jazz\, big band\, and jazz rock arrangements. Both groups typically perform four concerts per year throughout the tri-state including a spring concert\, the annual July patriotic concert in Ironton\, a fall pops concert\, and a Christmas concert.
