SUMMARY:Silvopasture Tour: Krusling Farm
DESCRIPTION:Learn about silvopasture on a pastured sheep operation in Athens County! \n\n\n\n\nThis silvopasture tour will take place at Krusling Farm where the Krusling family raises 400 hair sheep on 90 acres of fescue clover pasture\, plus 50 acres of rented ground for grazing annuals and 35 acres of unreclaimed limtestone gravel mine which is in the process of being converted to natives for grazing. \nThe Kruslings have established silvopasture by addition and subtraction across their farm. We will visit areas where they have planted purchased tree seedlings as well as areas where they have allowed for natural regeneration by mowing around tree saplings that come up on their own in the pastures. In fall 2024\, they cleared a large wooded area at the back of their property and seeded it into a diverse pasture mix. \nAttendees can expect to tour each of these silvopasture areas on the farm\, learn about the primary motivations for establishing silvopasture\, discuss water quality impacts\, and consider tree protection methods\, layout design & planting tips. \nREGISTER HERE

A tripod is also suggested as we’ll be shooting in low light during the late afternoon/ evening hours\, but not required. \nSession runs during golden hour on September 12 for roughly 4 hours\, 3:00PM – 7:00PM. The sun will be setting around 7:45PM\, so we’ll plan to be off the trail and at the trail head no later than this time. We’ll begin with an overview of the session and ensure everyone is prepared for our adventure. \nHow the evening works: \nThe group moves at a natural pace down the trail\, when someone notices something worth stopping for\, we stop. We talk about what drew their eye\, what they’re trying to capture\, and how to set themselves up for the best chance of getting it. Settings\, light\, lens choice\, and framing come up in context\, when they’re actually relevant. We will abstain from a long lecture in the classroom or at the trail head. \nThroughout the evening there will be periodic pauses to read a scene together: what the light is doing\, what the landscape is offering\, what might be worth waiting for. The goal is to leave with a different relationship to observation\, not just a card full of images. \nRachael – Naturalist: Rachael will be joining us on this experience to guide the group for a better understanding and education of our natural surroundings. DESCRIPTION:Get in a fall state of mind at our first fall event for the year! This large show will feature artists and crafters selling their original handmade items at this beautiful venue! Admission is $3 to the public\, children under 12 are free! A portion of proceeds will benefit local non-profit\, Charity Newsies. \nAll tickets for our events are available for sale at both the door (morning-of) and now online at our website. Again\, you do have the option to pay at the door or pre-purchase. Tickets will not sell out! We have just found that some attendees love to get their tickets ahead of time and rather skip the line! Once purchased\, the day of the event\, show your unique QR code at the door the morning of the show to get scanned\, and you’re good to go! No entry without your QR code scanned. \nIf you have your tickets\, you can skip the line and head right to the front where we will scan you to avoid having to wait in the admission line. \nKids 12 and under are free at all of our shows that require an admission.
