Barnett and Strischek will present the story of how the prehistoric spear-throwing tool provided early hunters with greater power and range and accuracy for use in survival than when throwing a spear by hand alone. \nThe Lycheon Luncheon Speaker Series is a monthly lunchtime opportunity to learn a bit about the rich local history of this region where Ohio began. DESCRIPTION:She was the first woman to run for president – and did it before women were allowed to vote. \nShe was a pioneer for women’s rights\, but was virtually written out of the history of women’s suffrage. \nShe faced the worst sort of harassment and verbal abuse for her stances\, but refused to back down. \nShe was an advocate for free love in an era in which women who had liaisons outside of marriage were social pariahs\, when even writing about the topic was shocking and indelicate. \nShe was an advocate for women’s financial independence and ran the first woman-owned brokerage firm with the backing of Cornelius Vanderbilt. \nShe refused to back down from the truth\, even when she was sent to jail for it. \nShe was Ohio’s own Victoria Woodhull and she’s the subject of our next Lecture Series event on March 22 at 6pm. \nPlease join us as Robin Schuricht discusses this amazing woman’s forgotten contributions to American history. DESCRIPTION:The Belpre Area Veterans (BAV) will be holding a food drive on Saturday March 29\, 2025 from 9:00 a.m until 1:00 p.m in the lot of the Wash-Rite Unlimited Express Wash storage building at 1004 Washington Blvd Belpre\, Ohio (In the Kroger’s shopping center). All proceeds will be given to the Belpre Area Ministries Food Pantry. Some of the commonly requested items are: \nSaltine Crackers\, Ramen noodles\, Skillet meals (hamburger helper)\, Pancake mix\, Pancake syrup\, Canned Tuna\, Mac and cheese\, Spaghetti\, Spaghetti sauce\, Canned Corn\, Canned Green beans. Cereal\, Rice packets\, Apple juice\, Spaghetti O’s\, Pork and beans\, Chicken noodle soup. Canned Fruit\, Jelly\, Peanut butter\, Instant mashed potatoes\, Shampoo\, Clothes detergent\, Dish detergent\, Bar soap\, Toilet paper\, and Toothpaste. Of course\, cash or checks (payable to BAM) are always welcome!

DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Athens County Public Libraries is having a Book Donation Drive Thru event on Saturday\, March 29\, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Athens Public Library\, 30 Home Street\, Athens. People can bag or box up their used good-condition books\, drive them up to the front entrance of the Athens Public Library\, and let Friends volunteers remove them from their cars. \nThe Friends of the Athens County Public Libraries support all the libraries of the countywide library system. Our major source of revenue is earned through our permanent used Book Store located within the Athens Public Library. People also may support The Friends through memberships. The Friends success has been made possible because of the generosity of book donors and customers of our book sales\, as well as loyal members.

SUMMARY:Outdoor Photography Exhibit in Howard Park (Across from Schoonover)
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday March 30th\, there will be an outdoor exhibition of photojournalist Milton Lindsay’s long-term photography project looking at the H-2A Seasonal Farmworker Visa Program in North Carolina and Mexico. 30\, 20×24 inch images depicting life for this group of transient agricultural workers\, who spend 6-10 months working on American farms before returning to Mexico during the winter. Nationwide\, there are 300\,000 H-2A Farmworkers\, with 10% of the population living in North Carolina. Since 2015\, the program has grown by 300%\, largely due to increased deportations during the first Trump Administration. \n(I was unable to upload the poster I made up\, but I can sent it over) \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:It’s playtime at The Nest!\n\nBreak the routine\, get out of the house and come let your little ones play in a fresh space while you get to talk with other grown-ups for awhile!\n\nCome and go as you please anytime during our open play hours.  Toys and activities are geared towards babies and toddlers but older siblings are welcome to come along.\n\nWhile you’re here\, peruse the lending library of books\, DVDs and even baby carriers free to borrow!\n\nTuesdays masks are optional\, while Thursdays are mask-only for those who prefer a “mask-on” environment.\n\nDisinfectant wipes are always available and we have a tub for toys that have been “mouthed” so they can be washed before future use.\n\nA changing table and toddler potty are available as well as a bottle warmer and fridge for storing formula/milk.
