DESCRIPTION:Ohio University’s Department of Physics & Astronomy and the Astrophysical Institute will host a formal opening of the new observatory. Public stargazing using the Department’s refurbished Fecker telescope and portable telescopes will be possible\, weather permitting. \nOrganizers recommend attendees wear sturdy walking shoes. If you have them\, bring binoculars to view the night sky while waiting to use a portable telescope available during the event. Astronomers will be on hand to describe the night sky. Shuttle service is available for visitors who require transportation assistance.

DESCRIPTION:The Athens County Community Singers\, a “choir for all voices” and non-profit organization is hosting their Spring Rock n Roll Concert at the Coolville People’s Club on Thursday\, May 18 at 5:00 p.m.  This fundraising event will be selling food (hot dogs\, chips\, watermelon\, etc.) and hosting a movie ticket raffle.  Donations will also be accepted in order to assist the choir in meeting their end of year expenses.  All donations are tax deductible.  Chris Biester\, one of Athens’ well known performers\, will be featured and many in the choir are singing solos and playing instruments.  You don’t want to miss it!

Hear spooky tales of actual crimes\, strange events and encounters with the ghosts of Marietta’s past. Keep your eyes open; you never know what you’ll run into in the shadows along our brick streets! \nIn 2017 we are debuting a brand new Ghost Trek! \nOur new Putnam Street Ghost Trek will start at the Courthouse at the corner of Second and Putnam Streets. Hear stories of creepy old buildings that loom over you in shadow\, and learn of a dark past filled with murder\, suicide and executions. This tour starts at 8pm every Friday and Saturday night\, May-October. No reservations necessary! \nRate: Adults – $15. Kids 12 and under – $10\, parental discretion advised \nGhost Tours last approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours. The total distance covered is a little over one mile.
