Scarcity/Resource

hogsHogs are used for food and their hides make great leather products. Hog products are also used in 40 different drugs that humans take, such as insulin for diabetics. Pork production takes more than just a farmer and a pig. Over 10,000 Ohioans earn income from the pork industry each year. Veterinarians, truck drivers, feed suppliers, and meat managers are just a few of the human resources needed to produce pork products.

Capital goods include the farms with their fences, hog shelters, factories that produce food for the hogs, trucks, and so on. For every hog raised in Ohio, $70 is invested back into the community in the form of utilities, feed, loans, and jobs (Ohio Department of Agriculture).
