Human/Environmental
Ohio's environment provides many gifts. The glacier that covered two-thirds of northern and western Ohio during the last Ice Age provided flat or gently rolling land with rich, easy to farm soil. The hilly lands in the southeast had more mineral resources than in other regions of the state. Ohioans have used those resources to produce goods and earn income.
Rivers provide water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and transportation. Water, when there are floods, can have both positive and negative consequences for humans. Floods can kill people and ruin their possessions. Floods can also bring fresh soil into an area and make the land better for farming.
