Participating in this month’s State Street Art Walk:

Arts West

132 W. State St.—My Truth is Raw: Jessica Beckford, Featuring music by Stu Hayes

Jessica Beckford moved from Chandler, Arizona, to Athens, Ohio, in 2003 with a love and respect for the rich culture of the Southwest. She draws great inspiration from the life and works of Frida Kahlo and the raw truth she represents. The symbolic and coded nature of the imagery allows for the ability to tell a story without saying a word. With the use of symbolic imagery in her own work, Beckford bares her inner most thoughts in hopes to touch the hearts of kindred souls.

SEO History Center

24 W. State St.— Stuff of Dreams

If you dressed up as your childhood hero, who would you choose? Who has inspired you to be the person you are today? This month, the History Center is featuring the portraits of Elise Mitchell Sanford before they come down at the end of September. Leave a response, draw a picture, or dress up and take a photo! #seohistorycenter

Casa Nueva

6 W. State St.— Standing Rock & the Fights for Indigenous Rights: Robert Studzinski, Featuring music provided by Megan Wren DUO.

Robert Studzinski : As a photographer, I’ve spent 37 years, off and on, with indigenous and endangered peoples in some of the wilder places in the world. I’ve documented their cultural past, alive in the present, as well, and their struggles for dignity and justice. My passion is putting a human face on people we’d otherwise never meet and giving voice to their stories.

Passion Works Studio

20 E. State St.— Cardon Smith – The Solo Show

As a practicing artist Cardon Smith has dedicated the past 20 years of artistic study to two loves: painting and architecture. His style is bold and fluid blending color and line into buildings and cityscapes. The paintings feel like a familiar fantasy that would be wonderful to call home.

The artist will be giving an art talk and answering questions at Passion Works Studio.
