44 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Athens County for Nov. 11-17

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 18,866 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 44 additional cases were reported since last week’s update.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on Nov. 17, 2022.

According to ODH data, the cases involved 11 people 20-29, eight people 60-69, seven people 0-19, four people 40-49, four people 50-59, four people 70-79, four people 80+ and two people 30-39.

There are 168 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 18,543 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 53.95% of the county has started the vaccination process and 50.28% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 18,916 first boosters and 7,860 second boosters and 6,534 updated boosters administered.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Thursday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 10,170 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported since last week’s update. There were also 414 hospitalizations, 37 ICU admissions and 134 deaths reported in the same time period.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
