DESCRIPTION:Join us for a rich experience by connecting to Southeast Ohio while cycling through the old railroad beds of Appalachia\, enjoying local food & drinks\, and immersing yourself in the history of the region. \nThis 14 mile historic bike tour along the Hockhocking Adena Bike-way is perfect for any level of cyclist. On this tour you will visit the ruins of the town of Old Floodwood. Here we will meet local historian\, Tyler McDaniel\, who will tell us stories of the past as he shares his passion of Appalachian history and his colloquial knowledge of Old Floodwood\, the town his Great Grandma was a resident of long ago. The start and end location of this tour is Eclipse Company Store. What was once the coal miners’ company store\, now is renovated into a beer hall and eatery. Participants will have the opportunity to patron the Company Store that now offers a wide variety of drinks on tap upon returning from the tour.

The tour will be begin with Eric Hedin sharing about the culture of brewing throughout history in Appalachia Ohio. We will casually roll down the paved bike path to a birding hot spot where we will meet local birding enthusiast Nandini Stockton. \nOn this official Brew Week Event you will have the opportunity to visit Eclipse Company Store\, and Devils’ Kettle Brewing \nThis is a non-supported tour\, meaning participants should come prepared with personal bike repair kits and water. DESCRIPTION:Discover the rich and vibrant history of Stewart\, Ohio and surrounding communities. Throughout this weekend experience\, we embrace the often uncomfortable and tragic parts of our history\, but we also celebrate the resilient and inspiring future of Black entrepreneurship and community. We will hear stories about people of African descent who have played an integral part in the region’s development as we visit locations of historical significance. On this unique and insightful journey through Appalachian Ohio\, you will discover the historical and cultural gems even long-time residents might have yet to explore. \nThis weekend-long\, guided tour includes stops at two unique museums\, three meals by local and Black owned businesses\, a guided drum circle\, tour of a local maple syrup farm\, transportation and more! On this experience you will gain factual knowledge about the natural and cultural heritage of the region from local historians\, business owners\, and farmers that uplift the diversity of our community. Dinner reservations and a specialty menu are provided at Dutch Creek Winery along with an exclusive tour of their honey\, wine\, and mead production\, including a honey sampling. This is an all-inclusive tour aside from lodging (check out our list below for local lodging accommodations that will provide you a discount rate if you book this tour with us).

DESCRIPTION:Join Emma Loomis-Amrhein on a guided nature writing workshop through the beautiful Presbyterian Farm. Emma will lead you through various writing exercises that will help develop your writing skills as we hike through the preserve. The guided hike will provide inspiration for your own nature writing as you become familiar with the flora and fauna of the Appalachian forest. \nEmma’s passion for nature shines through in her work\, evening primrose\, her debut collection that seeks to address trans struggle and liberation in the crepuscularity and in-betweenness of rural being. Showing the country itself as queer\, evening primroses serves as a sort of field guide for growth and change in that space\, marking the passage of time between woodcock dance and trillium bloom\, a record of having been\, becoming\, coming out. \nParticipants can expect to hike up to two miles along the trails at the Presbyterian Farm with multiple stops along the way leaving plenty of room for exploration\, inspiration\, and collaboration amongst the group. The hike will end around a warm fire under a shelter with hot local refreshments! This workshop is perfect for any level of writer\, naturalist or anyone interested in developing a deeper connection to the natural world. \n  \nRain date December 4th

This workshop is perfect for any level of writer\, naturalist or anyone interested in developing a deeper connection to the natural world. \nJohn Knouse trail head located at 39.346699\, -82.012347 \nTo access the western end of the trail and the parking area (“P” on map): From Athens\, take Strouds Run Road into the state park and continue past the campgrounds and beach turnoffs. About a mile farther up a steep hill\, there is a fork in the road. Turn right and follow Scatter Ridge Road 1.7 miles to the junction with Lake Hill Road\, where there is a sign that says Horseman’s Area. Turn right and follow Lake Hill Road 0.5 mile to a parking area on the right. From there\, continue south on the road by foot another 0.2 mile and look for a trailhead sign on the left. It’s about 500 feet beyond a vehicle-exclusion gate.

SUMMARY:Growing Glouster\, A Glimpse into the Past and Present
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we step back in time and to hear stories of the past from the colorful mayor of Glouster\, Hugh Gormley played by Glouster resident Maggi Gifford. You will hear stories of how the mayor was found in fighting brawls in the middle of town and learn about the rich history of the region. We will then hear from local entrepreneur Jane Cavarozzi of Dirty Girl Coffee about her plans for opening up a storefront in downtown Glouser. Dirty Girl Coffee will be available to for refreshments during the tour. In addition we will hear from the Survivor Advocacy Outreach Program and their renovation plans for a building in downtown Glouster for their New Leaf Market place. We will end the tour at the oldest kickboxing gym in America\, Sam’s Gym where we will be hearing from kickboxing ledgin Sam Jones.
