SUMMARY:Community Resiliency Training: We Heal Better Together!
DESCRIPTION:The Community Resiliency Model (CRM) training was created by the Trauma Resource Institute (TRI) in California. CRM teaches six self-regulation skills that help people more quickly return their nervous system to baseline after traumatic events. \nWhen our nervous system is more regulated\, we have lower sympathetic activation\, lower levels of cortisol\, and more access to our thinking brain\, as well as efficient termination of fight\, flight\, or freeze. This in turn reduces the risk of developing PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Join us to learn self-regulation skills to keep yourself and others more regulated and healthy. \nOur guest trainer will be Mara Giglio\, Director of the Appalachian Peace and Justice Network. \nSponsored by the Friends of the Library.

DESCRIPTION:This wonderful local “choir for all voices” includes those with and without disabilities. Individuals with disabilities have an opportunity to perform and fulfill their dream of belonging to a performance group and give back to their community\, and the choir promotes both inclusion and acceptance wherever they perform. While some choir members are challenged to communicate in a traditional way\, their smiles and vocalizations give evidence to their enjoyment of music and being a part of the group. \n  \nJoin us for this outdoor event in the amphitheater under the direction of Stephanie H. Morris\, MM\, MT-BC\, the founder of the choir.

SUMMARY:Music at the Library with Kay Carter
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the longer days and warmer weather with a live performance by Kay Carter on the main floor of the library. A spring afternoon never sounded so good! \nPerformer bio: Kay Carter has pursued doing what she loves through determination that carried her past restrictions she faced. She took up the cornet for the school band because that was what was available to rent\, and with that instrument\, she was in the senior band in third grade. With a few lessons on guitar under her belt\, she provided music for her Catholic congregation that had no organ. And she pushed past her shyness to finally begin the singing career she always dreamed of by accompanying her son’s college band. She now performs regularly locally and further afield\, heading jazz groups\, singing and playing trumpet\, and playing guitar in solo appearances.
