State St.—My Truth is Raw: Jessica Beckford\, Featuring music by Stu Hayes \nJessica Beckford moved from Chandler\, Arizona\, to Athens\, Ohio\, in 2003 with a love and respect for the rich culture of the Southwest. She draws great inspiration from the life and works of Frida Kahlo and the raw truth she represents. The symbolic and coded nature of the imagery allows for the ability to tell a story without saying a word. With the use of symbolic imagery in her own work\, Beckford bares her inner most thoughts in hopes to touch the hearts of kindred souls. \nSEO History Center \n24 W. State St.— Stuff of Dreams \nIf you dressed up as your childhood hero\, who would you choose? Who has inspired you to be the person you are today? This month\, the History Center is featuring the portraits of Elise Mitchell Sanford before they come down at the end of September. Leave a response\, draw a picture\, or dress up and take a photo! #seohistorycenter \n  \nCasa Nueva \n6 W. State St.— Standing Rock & the Fights for Indigenous Rights: Robert Studzinski\, Featuring music provided by Megan Wren DUO. \n  \nRobert Studzinski : As a photographer\, I’ve spent 37 years\, off and on\, with indigenous and endangered peoples in some of the wilder places in the world. I’ve documented their cultural past\, alive in the present\, as well\, and their struggles for dignity and justice. My passion is putting a human face on people we’d otherwise never meet and giving voice to their stories. \nPassion Works Studio \n20 E. State St.— Cardon Smith – The Solo Show \n  \nAs a practicing artist Cardon Smith has dedicated the past 20 years of artistic study to two loves: painting and architecture. His style is bold and fluid blending color and line into buildings and cityscapes. The paintings feel like a familiar fantasy that would be wonderful to call home. \n  \nThe artist will be giving an art talk and answering questions at Passion Works Studio. \nFor more information please\, contact ARTS/West at (740) 592-4315 \n  \nAbout the State Street Art Walk \nThe State Street Art Walk takes place on the first Thursday of each month with four exhibits uptown on one street\, to provide free visual arts events to the Athens community\, a larger platform for exhibiting artists and musicians and to promote Athens art tourism. The event brings together art lovers\, community members\, and repeat visitors who collect art\, dine\, and shop at local businesses.

SUMMARY:The Local Girls Annual Community Christmas Concert
DESCRIPTION:  \nLocal Girls Community Christmas Concert at Southeast Ohio History Center \nThe Southeast Ohio History Center is happily hosting The Local Girls Annual Community Christmas Concert on Sunday\, December 10 at 2pm. \nThe Local Girls accompanied David Bromberg\, performed at the White House\, and provided music for two award-winning series on NPR\, as well as PBS-TV. A Prairie Home Companion gig was one of their favorites. In the summer of 2004\, The Local Girls performed throughout Germany\, Austria and France and on the streets of Vienna. They have been described as “a soundfest of three-part harmony that is so good it can make you cry with joy”\, by local musician\, Roman Warmke. \nThe Local Girls\, Mimi Hart\, Gay Dalzell and Brenda Catania will be joined by musicians Kyle Slemmer\, Mark Hellenberg\, and their tried and true backup band of Michael McGannon and Terry Douds. \nThe concert will have a special appearance by Sarah Hart\, a singer/songwriter whose songs have been recorded by many. Hart performed\, by special request\, for Pope Francis at the Vatican. Now the Local Girls and Sarah Hart are here to play for their own beloved community at our own Southeast Ohio History Center. What a beautiful venue! Please join them in singing. It’s time to lift our voices together! \nDoors open at 1:45pm at 24 West State Street in Athens\, at the corner of Congress and West State streets.
