DESCRIPTION:The Athens Photo Project proudly presents artwork created during summer 2019 by fifteen emerging youth artists from Athens County. This site-specific wheat-paste exhibition will be displayed on the exterior wall of the alley next to Jack Neal Florist at 15 W. Union St. in Athens. The exhibit is part of the Second Annual Athens Community Arts and Music Festival and will be on view from 11AM to 10PM on Saturday\, August 17th. Am Artists Reception will be held for the exhibit from 1 – 3PM the same day. \nThe Athens Photo Project is a vibrant community of artists dedicated to using photography as a tool for self-expression\, personal growth\, and social change. \nThe 2019 Youth Photo Project is a partnership between Athens Photo Project\, 317 Board\, and Hopewell Health Centers.

SUMMARY:A Thousand Words - A Public Art Installation by the Athens Photo Project
DESCRIPTION:Join Athens Photo Project and the City of Athens for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday\, October 27th from 3:30 – 4:30pm at the Athens City Parking Garage located at 7 E. Washington St.\, in Athens. The ceremony will honor APP’s new public art installation\, A Thousand Word\, and provide an opportunity for the community to meet the artists and celebrate this exciting addition to Uptown Athens! \nContinuous shuttle service from APP’s Studio (434 W. Union St.) will be available for APP artists and audience members beginning 30min prior to each event and ending 30min after. \nAthens Photo Project (APP) partnered with the City of Athens to create A Thousand Words\, a permanent art installation that celebrates the community and landscape of Southeast Ohio as seen through the creative lens of our regional photographers. Photographs presented within the installation will rotate on a biennial basis\, and will feature group exhibitions from APP artists and juried exhibitions open to all regional photographers. SUMMARY:Youth Photo Exhibit: Being a Teen Ain’t Easy
DESCRIPTION:The Athens Photo Project (APP) proudly presents photographs created during summer 2017 by twelve emerging youth artists from Athens county\, Ohio. \nThe exhibit Being a teen ain’t easy\, will showcase photographs that reflect the unique perspectives of the artists and will be accompanied by written reflections of their thoughts\, desires and challenges. \nDuring the summer workshop the girls learned the basic principles of storytelling; how to use photography to reflect their unique view of the world; and how to use doodling to express their thoughts and ideas. The program created a safe space for these young folks to reflect collectively on their realities and their way of seeing the world by using media and arts as a tool for self-reflection. Throughout the workshop group members were able to identify common interests and share stories related to high school\, the arts\, friendship\, love\, the court system\, foster care and other aspects of their lives. \nPlease join us at the Opening Reception to meet the young artists and celebrate their work!
