Athens Photographer Documents “A Tropical Appalachia”

When Athens resident Attila Horvath isn't busy with his landscaping business, writing songs or biking through the hills and hollows of Southeast Ohio, he can usually be found behind the camera lens. His latest photo exhibit, Rusted, Burned, Abandoned, is on display at the Athens Public Library throughout the month of February. The show is filled with striking images of junked vehicles, burned-out buildings and abandoned structures, all shot on Andros Island in The Bahamas.

Dave Rave: The Flipside Of The Athens Music Scene

For decades, Athens, Ohio, has been a hotspot for live music. But to limit the Athens music scene to just performance-based acts would be a mistake. For years, DJ culture has co-existed alongside local live bands, drawing huge crowds and providing an outlet for fans of electronic music.

WOUB's Bryan Gibson caught up with Dave Rave's Brandon Thompson and Dave Alexander to learn more about the Athens DJ/dance scene and how they became one of the most popular acts in town.

Stuart’s to Host Concert, Film, Record Sale this Saturday

Live music fans, record collectors and film buffs will all have something to celebrate this Saturday at Stuart's Opera House.

The Nelsonville concert and arts venue is hosting a full day of music-related activities, including a set by "psychedelic Appalachian" guitarist Daniel Bachman, a screening of the documentary In Search of Blind Joe Death: The Saga of John Fahey and the ever-popular Record Sale and Swap in the lobby.

Not Kidding Around: Angela Perley Releases New Album, Video

Since 2009, Angela Perley and her band The Howlin' Moons have toured throughout the U.S., received overseas airplay on the BBC and performed at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.

The band is about to release its full-length debut, Hey Kid, and celebrate with a show in Athens–the town that gave Perley her musical start and the subject matter for the album's lead-off track.
