The Stuart’s Opera House Gallery will host an opening for Another Language Altogether: Posters Celebrating the Poems of Wendy McVicker on Friday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m.

The exhibit is the result of a collaboration between poet Wendy McVicker and graphic designer/artist Molly Schoenhoff.  Schoenhoff invited McVicker to participate in a typography course last spring at the University of Dayton, where Schoenhoff was an artist-in-residence.

University of Dayton typography students selected poems from McVicker’s collection and typeset the poems in poster form. The posters interpret the poetry through line, image, texture and color.

The performance portion of the evening is also a collaboration, bringing together the poet’s voice and the music of Emily Prince, who will play a variety of instruments.

The phrase “another language altogether” came from one of McVicker’s poems. After the initial exhibition of the posters at the Dayton Metro Library in April, McVicker and Prince chose the phrase for their continuing work as a duo, performing poems with music.

The live performance will begin in the gallery at 7:30 p.m. The exhibit will will be displayed at Stuart’s Opera House through January 17, 2012. For more information, visit www.stuartsoperahouse.org.
