Boogie on the Bricks, Athens’ one-day community music and arts street festival, returns to Court Street on Saturday, June 21, featuring live music, craft and domestic beer, art vendors, kids’ activities and much more.

“People love this event,” said Judy Wymer, chair of the non-profit Boogie on the Bricks board. “It’s a wonderful time to relax, check out some local art, eat some delicious food and hear great music.”

And this year the festival is celebrating a milestone: 10 years. Event Coordinator Scott Kreps is thrilled to be on board for the occasion.

“To be a part of the 10th anniversary of Boogie is an honor,” he said. “By now, it has made a name for itself regionally and we’re excited to pull people in from Columbus and elsewhere to showcase some of the best of what Athens has to offer. It’s that one-of-a-kind experience you can only get uptown Athens on the bricks.”

Entrance to the festival is free of charge and free parking will be available in the City Garage, located on East Washington and South College Streets.

The fest will consist of two stages with live music, craft and domestic beer, a food court, local merchants, art vendors and local non-profit organizations, as well as an expanded Kids Zone, supported by The Dairy Barn Arts Center and Athens County Children’s Services.

“The kids area is bigger and better this year,” said Wymer. “And while mom or dad are playing with the kids, the other parent can be dancing on the bricks, enjoying a cold beverage with friends.”

Wymer was also quick to thank the main community sponsors for this year.

“Southeast Beverage and Peoples Bank are our top sponsors. Jackie O’s, The Pigskin, Bella Vino, The Wasserman Group, Tony’s, Athens County Visitor’s Bureau, Carpenter & Associates, Century National Bank, Dave Hoisington Realty, Goldsberry Wealth Strategies, Power 105.5, WOUB and Zonez have all helped as well,” she said. “We really couldn’t do it without their ongoing support.”

Festivities get underway at noon and continue through midnight. For more information, visit www.boogieonthebricks.com or listen to Robin Barnes’ interview with Judy Wymer, Scott Kreps and Lynn Smith (at top).
