DAYTON, Ohio (AP) – A safety group’s report shows the number of pedestrians killed by motor vehicles in Ohio in the first six months of 2015 climbed and Ohio led all states in the percentage increase over the same period in 2014.

The Dayton Daily News reports the Governors Highway Safety Association says 56 pedestrians were killed in Ohio between Jan. 1 and June 30 last year. That was a 124 percent increase from 25 killed during the same period in 2014.

The average percentage increase for all states was 6 percent, up from 2,232 to 2,368.

An analysis of Ohio data shows that some factors playing a role in the increase include weather conditions and more vehicles on the road due to cheaper gas and an improved economy.
