GALLIPOLIS, Oh (WOUB)— The Gallia Academy Blue Devils defeated the Vinton County Vikings at home in a dominating 34-6 victory to advance in the playoffs.

Vinton County would receive the kickoff, but on the second play of the drive, Quarterback Parker Shonborn would throw an interception to Gallia Academy’s Kenyon Franklin, giving the Blue Devils the ball with excellent field position.

The Vikings would not start strong on the defensive side of the ball either, giving up a 45-yard touchdown run from Hudson Shamblin on the second play of Gallia Academy’s drive, putting the Blue Devils up 7-0 only a minute into the game.

Gallia Academy would continue to pour it on, forcing Vinton County to punt, and then scoring a three-yard rushing touchdown by Hunter Shamblin, going up two scores.

Gallia Academy’s Cole Hines would then force a fumble on defense, giving the Blue Devils the ball with strong field position once again. But on the very next play, Gallia Academy would fumble themselves after a long run, giving the Vikings the ball back.

Ultimately, Vinton County would be forced to punt. Gallia Academy would then open the second quarter strong, capping off their drive with a 37-yard passing touchdown to Hunter Shamblin, putting them up 21-0.

The Blue Devils would score once again in the second quarter, as Hunter Shamblin would find the endzone for the third time of the night after a 14-yard touchdown run. Gallia Academy would go for the two-point conversion after a penalty, but would fail to convert, giving them a 27-0 lead.

Gallia Academy would later miss a field goal with less than a minute on the clock, but the Vikings would fail to capitalize, entering the second half scoreless.

Vinton County’s struggles would continue into the second half, only scoring one touchdown and giving up another, as the Blue Devils went on to win the game 34-6.

With that victory, Gallia Academy advances in the playoffs, seeking to keep their season alive off the momentum from this commanding victory.
