HAMDEN — Hamden Police Chief Charles Boyer has agreed to resign for violating multiple state ethics rules upon reaching a settlement with the Ohio Ethics Commission.

Boyer, a 33-year veteran of law enforcement, had been serving as chief since Hamden resurrected its police department in 2012.

His involvement in being appointed to that role is what sparked an Ohio Ethics Commission investigation. A Settlement Agreement was made public on June 15.

The investigation hinged on Boyer’s tenure as a Hamden councilman during the village’s hiring process for a new police chief. The Commission report states Boyer applied for the chief job while still on council and did not resign his legislative post until after being hired.
