The Ohio State Highway Patrol says fatal traffic crashes were down over Labor Day weekend this year.

The patrol says there were 11 fatalities on the roads between Friday and midnight on Monday, compared with 16 during the same four-day period last year.

The patrol attributes the improvement partially to increased enforcement. Troopers arrested 804 people for drunken or impaired driving, an increase of 4.3 percent from last year. Drug arrests during the period were up 31 percent.

Overall enforcement was up more than 5 percent, with troopers making more than 35,000 traffic stops during which a citation was issued.
