COLUMBUS, Ohio – A local state park is set to upgrade its water system thanks to an investment from the state.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) received approval from the State Controlling Board for $118,800 for the water and wastewater systems at Lake Hope State Park in Vinton County.

Located at the base of the hill below the lodge, shifting slopes have caused cracking concrete, separation of pipes, and difficulty opening access panels at the plant. This project will improve the drainage and stabilize the slopes above the plant so it can continue operations. The project is expected to be completed in June.

“Infrastructure improvements are crucial for maintaining essential services at our state parks,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz wrote in a release. “Our focus is on providing high quality experiences for our guests.”

The wastewater treatment plant serves the dining lodge, Laurel Lodge, beach house, and 67 cabins at Lake Hope.

The 2,983-acre Lake Hope State Park lies within Zaleski State Forest.
