Power Back For 70 Percent Of AEP Ohio Customers
< < Back to powerA majority of the American Electric Power customers across the state whose power was knocked out by Friday's storm have regained electricity.
AEP's latest numbers show crews restored power to 70 percent of the 660,000 customers left powerless by severe weather Friday night and the additional 20,000 left in the dark by a thunderstorm Sunday.
In Southeast Ohio, Licking County experienced perhaps the greatest gain. The county, listed by AEP as one of the three hardest hit, dropped from 31,000 customers without power, to 19,770 as of this morning.
In Athens County, less than 10,000 customers remain without electricity.
And the situation is slightly improved in Muskingum County, where 14,646 are without electricity, compared with more than 16,000 a day ago.
AEP says crews are working through the Fourth of July holiday. Restoration maps estimate most of the region will have power by July 8.
