Track And Field Excels

The Bobcats made the most out of their time on George L. Rider Track earning 14 top 10 finishes at the Red Hawk Invitational on Saturday.

Olivia Mayfield stood atop pedestal in long jump, hopping 5.39 meters. Erika Armstead leaped 5.17 meters to earn fifth and Tajah Smith came in at eighth place at 5.05 meters.

Maureen Dean and Peyton Adkins showed endurance in the 5000-meter run. Dean ran a career-high 17:43.18 to claim second, and Adkins ended the race at 10th place with 18:24.73 on the stopwatch.

Taylor Smith placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.63 meters.

Tara Tollett captured fourth in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 4:53.15.

Shot put proved to be another bright spot for the Bobcats as well. Jordan Porter finished fourth, with a fling of 13.33 meters. Donyelle Brown threw the shot 13.02 meters to seize a spot at fifth. Brown also recorded 52.09 meters in the hammer throw for fifth.  Janiece Rose threw 12.74 meters in the shot-put competition to capture sixth place. Rose added on to her productivity earning sixth in the hammer throw with a 50.83-meter toss.

This invitational also allowed freshman Cassidy Cleland and Mary Lauletta to make a name for themselves. The two earned fourth and seventh, respectively, with tosses of 25.94 and 20.63 meters.

Next, Ohio will take I-33 up to Columbus, Ohio, for the two-day Jessie Owens Classic, which starts on Friday.
