It was a new day on the links today for the Ohio men’s golf team, but not much changed for them in their final round of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.

The team was 11th going into their final 18-hole round and remained 11th overall at the end of the day with a three-round team score of 875.

Senior and co-captain Ty Herriott shot 2-over par in his final round today to finish 3-under for the tournament (70-65-72-207) and tied for fifth place. Even with his impressive 65 yesterday, which tied the second best round in program history, he fell just four strokes short of the tournament winner, Eastern Kentucky’s Erik Lindwall, who had a three-round total score of 203.

Herriott is pleased to have shot a good score today even though he didn’t quite have his “A” swing going for him.

“I shot a good score when I didn’t have my best stuff working,” Herriott said. “My ball striking wasn’t as good as the day before, but I was able to save shots around the green thanks to my short game. I know if I can make my ball striking more consistent, I will be able to shoot more rounds like my 65 yesterday.”

Fellow senior and co-captain Peyton White shot a 1-under 69 on Tuesday to finish tied for 26th (72-74-69-215), and sophomore Ben Sattler came in with a much improved 3-over-par 73 (76-79-73-228).

Also contributing to the team score was sophomore Mike Kenney, who shot a 79 and finished with a three-day total score of 234 (81-74-79-234).

Senior Tom Nettles finished +29 overall (74-77-88-239) and junior Brady Bohl rounded up a 9-over tournament finish (73-71-75-219).

White commented that being the first tournament of the year, this was good experience for his teammates that are on their first leg of their college career and whom will grow with experience.

“Everyone had at least one good round,” White said. “We just need to get a bit more practice in these next couple of days and keep the tee shots in play for the next tourney. Ty is playing great, and once I get a few more reps in, the team and I will be all good to go.”

The Bobcats will next travel to Richmond, Kentucky to compete in the Eastern Kentucky University Intercollegiate at The University Club at Arlington. The tournament is this Saturday and Sunday and will have live scoring on Birdiefire.com
