The Waterford Wildcats are back in the Cooper as they were looking to end their 2-game losing streak against the Southern Tornadoes. The last time they met, Waterford dominated the game winning 60-19.

For the Wildcats, the shots started out slow in the first quarter as both teams were struggling to put them up. Eventually, the Wildcats began to building up pressure.

The shots for Waterford began crashing down and the defense held Southern to never take the lead in the game. Turnovers for Southern were the issue as Waterford took advantage of the struggles by scoring with Junior Jaret Armstrong and Senior Gavin Brooker.

The Wildcats turned the game more towards their favor in the 2nd half as the chemistry of this team began to form to help through the way

Jaret Armstrong pulled off a high scoring performance once again with 28 points and 5 total threes. Gavin Brooker scored 14 points as proved to be another key factor in this lineup.

The Wildcats kept it together in this game as they were successful in this game with a final score of 55-35.

Coach DJ Cunningham  looked at this game as a step up as they continue towards TVC play.

“We’ve been working on transitional defense a lot,” said Coach Cunningham. “We’ve stepped that up tonight, but we still have work to do in finding our man and getting ball stops a little bit sooner.”

Both Jaret and Gavin are also looking to improve for the next games to come as well as they look towards the tougher schedule ahead.

“South Gallia and Federal Hocking are two big games, we played good tonight, but we need to play good the next two games,” said Gavin.

“Defense leads to offense, that will be key for us,” said Jaret. “Transition offense is one of our strong suits, and if we lead with that, we should be just fine.”

Their next two away stretch will test the Wildcats as on January 27th they travel to South Gallia, then on January 31st they travel to Stewart to take on the Federal Hocking Lancers.
