In addition to the weekly food and art vendors\, the market will host live music from local musicians\, food demonstrations and samples\, and more. Ohio University’s Rufus will be making an appearance at the Wednesday market at 10 a.m.\, and on Saturday\, Community Food Initiative’s Donation Station will host a 50/50 raffle. There will also be special activities for kids\, including favors from Hopewell Health Centers\, a chalk mural on Wednesday and a coloring station to make thank you cards for farmers on Saturday. \nThe Athens Farmers Market has become an increasingly vital part of the Athens community since 1972. The market showcases our region’s robust local food and art scenes while also providing a social atmosphere for customers to linger to talk with friends\, neighbors\, and farmers. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our third annual “Taste the Tomatoes”; a people’s choice competition to choose the tomato champion of Athens. \nWe have 4 CATEGORIES this year including;\n1) best cherry tomato\n2) best hybrid tomato\n3) best heirloom tomato\n4) best homegrown tomato (no commercial farms please) \nRegister your tomato by August 22nd at 9pm by emailing athensfarmersmarketpromotions@gmail.com! \nVolunteers will be cutting up and serving out blind tastings of all the entries. A $2 donation lets you try them all. Then you simply cast your vote. All awards are people’s choice!
