SUMMARY:May Guided Hike: Signs of Spring -COSI Science Festival Community Event
DESCRIPTION:Join this free guided hike on Wayne National Forest’s Baileys Trail System to look for signs of spring. \n\n\n\n\nCome along for an in-person adventure as we discover the blooming wonders and fresh signs of spring on this guided hike led by a National Association for Interpretation Certified Interpretive Guide. Meeting at Chauncey-Dover Trailhead Park before carvanning to another site. This is the last opportunity to use the bathroom facilities. The group will wait at the shelter house until 545 before departing. This hike will not take the full two hours\, but it leaves a buffer window. May’s hike will be on Bullfrog Loop\, which is an easy trail with gently rolling dips and easy turns on a 1.5 miles loop that is Natural Tread 36-48″ wide. \nThe guide is Wilderness First Responder-certified and carries a first-aid kit. Hike at your own risk.

August’s full moon is often called the “Sturgeon Moon\,” again deriving its name from Native tribes who found an abundance of giant lake sturgeon ready to catch in the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain in the later summer months\, according to the Farmer’s Almanac. \nORCA’s Certified Interpretive Guide will lead a free guided hike through the scenic trails of Baileys Trail System. We are meeting at Chauncey-Dover Park Trailhead under the shelter house at 6:30 p.m. before caravaning to explore more trails in the system. The hike will not be two hours long\, but a buffer window for gathering and getting started. Come prepared with comfortable shoes\, water\, and a sense of adventure. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the great outdoors\, get some fresh air exercise\, and make new friends! \nORCA’s guided hike series in the Wayne National Forest is a hike at your own risk event. DESCRIPTION:Athens County Public Library’s Storybook Trails feature librarian-selected picture books that encourage a love of reading (anywhere!) and offer opportunities to get outside\, move our bodies\, practice literacy skills\, and spend time with friends and family. Baileys Trail System is lucky to have one here on the Chauncey Depot Trail. The trail is gravel-surfaced\, 48″ wide\, almost flat\, and a 0.46-mile loop perfect for wagons or strollers. We will be reading One Chicken Nugget by Tadgh Bentley. \nMeet at Chauncey-Dover Park Trailhead under the shelter house at 10 with a 15-minute buffer window for gathering and getting started. SUMMARY:A Historic Bike Tour with Tom O'Grady
DESCRIPTION:Join Appalachian Understories in a collaboration with the Southeast Ohio Historic Center as we ride through Dover township and explore the ruins of coal mining structures\, ride over the covered bridge and hear about the legacy of the Millfield mine disaster at the monument site. This is a 12 mile ride with 627 ft elevation gain and a max gradient of 9.6% this is a non supported tour meaning participants should come prepared with water and personal bike repair kits. Helmets and closed toe shoes required. The ride will begin and end at the Baileys Trail System parking lot in Chauncey.
