SUMMARY:OU Political Scientist Brandon Kendhammer to Discuss Boko Haram
DESCRIPTION:Brandon Kendhammer\, OU associate professor of Political Science and International Development Studies Program\, will discuss his latest book “Boko Haram”. He will be interviewed by Steve Howard\, professor of media arts. \n“Boko Haram” separates fact from fiction within one of the world’s least-understood conflicts. Most distinctively\, it is a social history\, one that tells the story of Boko Haram’s violence through the journalism\, literature\, film\, and music made by people close to it. \nThis event is free and open to the public. \nTo request accessibility accommodations for this event\, please contact Jen Harvey at (740) 593-2906 or harveyj1@ohio.edu

SUMMARY:Finding Truth in a Post Truth World: A Networking Event for Invested Citizens
DESCRIPTION:Given the growing concern about the ways we use and encounter information in a time of fake news and filter bubbles\, we think it’s a good time to bring together the many people in the Ohio University and Athens-area community who would like to create fake news-related projects in academic and community settings. \nWe invite you to join us for a networking session from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday\, April 4 on the 4th floor of Alden Library. At this meeting\, we’ll facilitate a discussion and bring together individuals interested in working on information literacy-related projects going forward. The discussion session is open to the public\, but we especially welcome attendance from Ohio University faculty and staff\, K12 teachers\, school and public librarians\, local community leaders\, and politicians.
