SUMMARY:Paper Circle Closing Sale
DESCRIPTION:We have some bittersweet news to share: After 22 wonderful years\, Paper Circle will be sunsetting. \nAs we prepare to close\, we’re offering a special farewell sale: Buy two full-size sheets of handmade paper\, get one free! And the best part? The more you buy\, the more you get free — buy 4\, get 2 free; buy 6\, get 3 free\, and so on. \nWe still have a gorgeous selection of paper in stock\, including our hemp\, unbleached abaca\, and cotton sheets. All handmade and perfect for printmaking\, book arts\, and other creative projects. This is your last chance to stock up on these beautiful papers while supplies last. \nPlease note: we’re no longer taking special orders or custom color requests. If a specific color is unavailable\, we’ll substitute it with the closest available option. \nOur Nelsonville shop will close permanently on June 30th\, 2025. We will not be making any more paper — just selling what remains in stock. \nWhile this chapter is ending\, we’re excited about what’s ahead. We’re currently collaborating with the Don E. Adleta TypeShop and Bindery at Ohio University to help develop the PAPER PRINT BOOK Experiential Museum\, coming soon to Athens\, Ohio. Stay tuned for more details! \nFrom all of us at Paper Circle\, thank you — for your business\, your trust\, and your belief in handmade craft. \nYou can take advantage of the sale or purchase any remaining products by clicking the link in our bio or visiting our website.

DESCRIPTION:Paper Circle Press Release\, July 8\, 2021 \nEvent Contact: Scout B Ery (she/her)\, shop.papercircle@gmail.com; (740) 331-1893; papercircle.org \nEvent Date: July 26 through 30\, 2021 \nEvent Location: Paper Circle\, 35 W. Columbus St.\, Nelsonville\, OH 45764 \nHeadline: Nationally-Known Artist Delita Martin to Have Art Residency at Paper Circle Studio \nNELSONVILLE\, OHIO: During the week of July 26–30\, 2021\, Paper Circle in Nelsonville\, Ohio\, will be hosting the nationally known printmaker and multimedia artist\, Delita Martin\, for a paper making residency. \nMartin\, who is based in Huffman\, TX\, works as a full-time artist in her studio\, Black Box Press [https://blackboxpressstudio.com/]. While in Nelsonville\, she will be learning the craft of hand papermaking at Paper Circle\, whose mission is to educate the public about the creation of handmade paper. \n“We’re very excited and honored to have an artist of Delita’s stature spending time at our studio\,” says Paper Circle executive director\, Scout Ery. Ery met the artist while visiting museums in Washington\, DC\, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. They talked about Paper Circle’s studio and the idea for the residency was established. \nMartin’s work explores the power of the narrative impulse\, drawing inspiration from oral traditions and from vintage and family photographs. In her process\, she layers various printmaking\, drawing\, sewing\, collaging\, and painting techniques which allow her to create portraits that fuse the real and the fantastic. Her work combines signs and symbols with storytelling to offer other identities and narratives for women of color. Martin’s goal is to create images as a visual language to tell the story of women that have often been marginalized\, offering a different perspective of the lives of black women. \nMartin is the founding member of Black Women of Print\, and her work is in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington\, DC\, among many other places. \nAt the end of her residency\, Martin will be donating pieces of completed work to the Paper Circle gallery. Later\, Paper Circle will be auctioning these works of art. \nThis engagement is supported by the Arts Midwest GIG Fund\, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. Local support comes from Paper Circle\,  Stuart’s Opera House and Nelsonville Emporium. \nPaper Circle is a non-profit studio and gallery located at 35 W. Columbus Street in Nelsonville\, OH. SUMMARY:Works on Paper virtual exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Paper Circle of Nelsonville OH will release a virtual exhibition\, “Works on Paper\,” on February 1\, 2021. It can be seen on the Paper Circle website\, www.papercircle.org. \nIn response to COVID\, Paper Circle was inspired to find a way to engage artists online and encourage creativity. Beginning in November\, Paper Circle began promoting its “Works on Paper” on Instagram and Facebook. “We had no idea how many applications we would solicit\,” said Executive Director Barbara (Scout) Ery. We were overwhelmed to receive 94 pieces of art. \nThe event drew international interest. Paper Circle received six entries from Canada\, one from Germany\, one from Scotland\, and one from the Czech Republic. \nThis exhibition celebrates creativity and resourcefulness in works on paper in the time of Coronavirus. During difficult times\, artists can lead the way in demonstrating resilience and originality. Entries included drawings\, paintings on paper\, printmaking\, collage\, book arts\, artists books\, and 3-D works. \nWith the help of three jurors who were chosen for their expertise in collage\, papermaking and fine art using paper as a medium\, Cecil Touchon (Santa Fe\, NM)\, Helen Hiebert (Vail\, CO)\, and Cyrilla Mozenter (Brooklyn\, NY)\, Paper Circle selected 30 pieces of artwork created by 24 artists. The artwork will be on display on the Paper Circle website [www.papercircle.org.] through March 31\, 2021. \nPaper Circle is pleased to announce that artist Dawn Peterson from Georgia will receive the $300 Sara Gilfert award for her entry titled “A Good Mystery\,” which is inspired by her favorite poet\, Emily Dickinson.  According to Peterson\, “During 2020 I had time to read more mysteries and my favorite poet Emily Dickinson. As a book artist I enjoyed creating altered books using pages from Agatha Christie novels which are sewn and glued onto a 3d printed iron vessel. Inside the vessel is a quote from Emily Dickinson about reading a good book. There is also no better texture than from book pages.” \nPaper Circle\, located in Nelsonville\, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the creation of handmade paper and education through the arts. Its website is https://papercircle.org/   For more information\, email Paper Circle at “shop.papercircle@gmail.com”
