Ohio University's Faculty Senate President Joe McLaughlin says he thinks OU's new basketball coach will be paid "too much."

Jim Christian was announced as OU's new head basketball coach at a press conference this afternoon. He is expected to earn $425,000 per year over the next five years, which would make him the highest-paid employee at the university.

McLaughlin believes OU is paying too much attention to its athletic programs.

"I think it's unfortunate that the two highest-paid employees now are the football and basketball coach," he said.

McLaughlin said he thinks OU's emphasis on athletics does not look good for what the school believes in, but he says he understands why the university is focusing on athletics.
