Athens Co. traffic deaths increase

The number of fatal crash deaths in Athens County is higher this year than it was at this point in time last year.

According to the State Highway Patrol map, four more people have died on Athens County roadways in 2011.

50 of the state's 88 counties have seen at least one fewer fatality by August 8th.

Athens County is one of 25 counties that have seen an increase in traffic deaths.

Scioto County is up three, while Ross, Lawrence and Hocking have an increase of two.

Pike County is down four, while Vinton and Jackson are down one.     

Cuyahoga County has seen the biggest decline.

The county that includes Cleveland has had 19 fewer fatalities than during the first seven months of 2010.

Stark County, also located in Northeast Ohio, has seen the largest increase.

The number of fatalities is up eight year to date.
