Vinton County has been given a $50,000 grant to address the lack of quality affordable housing in the region.

The grant is a part of $1.2 million approved by the state for the Community Development Block Discretionary Grant Program.

The funds will help the Ohio Community Development Corporations Association conduct an affordable housing market research project for the Appalachian region.

"These projects support improvements that will assist low-income Ohioans and foster new life and new purposes for community buildings," said Christiane Schmenk, Director of the Ohio Department of Development.

The study will send its recommendations to the Ohio Housing Finance Agency.
