Gallia’s Title Hopes Depend on Win Against Warren

This Friday is a pivotal day for high school football. Gallia Academy Blue Devils will face off against the Warren Warriors in an SEOAL conference match-up that will separate the conference. Gallia Academy (5-3, 2-1) has an opportunity to take command of second place in the SEOAL with a win against the Warriors.

But with a Warren win, the Warriors can end the Blue Devils chances of a conference deciding game in two weeks against Jackson. Warren (4-4, 2-2) will be heading into a muddy Memorial Field trying to shatter Gallia Academy’s hopes of a division title.

Although the weather conditions this week haven’t been the best, Coach Eddy is looking at the positives that have come from this October week’s odd weather.

“It’s been tough to prep this week because of the weather, but we’ve studied more film this week, and it gave our guys more time to heal their minor aches and bruises.”

Warren’s offensive attack has been somewhat misleading as of the past few weeks. When quarterback Dillon Leffingwell went down with a knee injury, running back Jeremy Hastie stepped in and ran a wildcat formation. With Leffingwell back, Warren may look to give Gallia Academy’s tough defense different looks with both the wildcat formation, and their normal sets.

Their high-powered offense, who outgained undefeated Jackson in week five, can do damage to a Gallia defense if they don’t defend properly.

“We can’t vacate the box. We need to stay balanced defensively because we feel they have a balanced offensive attack as well,” Coach Eddy explained.

Warren’s ability to spread the field and sustain momentum during drives could be a key to getting the win against Gallia Academy. But Blue Devil running back, Brandon Taylor, will try and lead his team to a victory and a possible conference championship match-up the following Friday.

Warren will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss last week to Chillicothe and beat a Gallia Academy squad that is riding a two game win streak with a lot to prove. Kickoff is set for 7:30 at Memorial Field, and it looks to be one of the best conference games of the season.
