Sen. Jay Rockefeller is encouraging West Virginians to properly dispose of unwanted or expired prescription drugs during the third National Drug Take Back Day
this coming weekend.

Rockefeller says the Drug Enforcement Agency and its partners are setting up locations throughout the state to provide the opportunity to rid their medicine cabinets of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

The locations will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Officials say flushing or rinsing medications down the drain, or tossing them in the trash can be dangerous.

The second National Drug Take Back Day in April, yielded more than 188 tons of unwanted or expired medications nationwide.

The events are anonymous and no questions are asked.
