Field Hockey: Clutch Mastro wins conference honor
< < Back toOhio field hockey junior Laura Mastro has been named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week after her clutch performance this past weekend.
This is Mastro's first "Player of the Week" honor, and the sixth time a Bobcat field hockey player has taken home the conference's defensive award (Louzeth Schutte – three times, Jen McGill – once, Jessica Jue – once).
Mastro's goal nine minutes into overtime against Ball State not only kept the Bobcats (15-3, 8-0 MAC) undefeated in the conference, but it clinched the regular season championship for Neil Macmillan's crew.
Mastro's goal, her third of the season, marked the second time Ohio has won a game in overtime. Ohio edged American University 2-1 in OT on September 10.
The Bobcats have a national RPI of 26 (as of 10/20) and a coaches poll ranking of 23 (as of 10/18), and have two games remaining before hosting the MAC tournament as the top-seeded team.
The MAC tournament starts November 3 at Pruitt Field in Athens.
