Bobcat Wrestling Takes Down Appalachian State< < Back to
The Ohio Wrestling team has a victory to its name. Ohio picked up its first dual win Saturday over the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 20-15 in the first home match of the season. Ohio had a rough start in dual match play last weekend when they dropped their first two dual contests to MAC foes Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan, respectfully.
Ohio started Saturday hot with the green and white winning its first four matches. Beau Wenger, Jeremy Johnson, Gabe Ramos, who pinned his opponent, and Jake Wojcik were all victorious for the Cats to begin the day.
This gave Ohio a 16-0 lead, however, Appalachian State did not go away and conjured up four straight victories, cutting the Bobcat lead to 16-12. The Bobcats than had to turn their hopes to star 174-pounder Nick Purdue. Purdue wrestled the Mountaineer’s Carter Downs with ease getting the major decision in the 9th match of the night.
The Cats led 20-12 after Purdue’s victory, which sealed the deal for the Cats.
Ohio 1-2 (0-2) will have one more dual match on December 12th against Chattanooga before the Reno Tournament of Champions on December 18th.
