Lady Bulldogs too Much to Handle for the Lady Spartans

The Athens Lady Bulldogs took their talents to Alexander tonight to battle the Lady Spartans in an exciting TVC-Ohio matchup.

Alexander started the game out slow, giving up eight unanswered points to the Lady Bulldogs of Athens. However, the Lady Spartans showed some light as they split a pair of free throws, ending the 8-0 spurt for Athens. The Lady Bulldogs played very aggressive defense the entire game, forcing many turnovers. By the end of quarter one, Athens had a pretty convincing lead over Alexander, 16-3

Although the Lady Spartans were facing a 13 point deficit at the beginning of the second quarter, they came out ready to play. Alexander point guard, Ally Malone, took it upon herself to lead her team through action, being aggressive with the ball on offense, along with stepping up her defensive presence. However, that was not enough to stop the Lady Bulldogs from adding 13 more points to the scoreboard, thanks in part to freshmen guard Dominique Doseck who had 10 points in the first half. Athens led at the half, 29-10.

In the beginning of the second half, it seemed as though Alexander had thrown in the towel, as the 19 point deficit was just too overbearing. Athens took advantage of this, forcing more turnovers. By the end of the game, Athens forced Alexander to turn the ball over 20 times. The Lady Bulldogs played very unselfish on offense, especially in the fourth. They were able to capitalize on the tired Lady Spartans by making numerous passes before taking a shot, as well as crashing the offense glass. The final score of tonight’s contest was 46-22 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs of Athens.

Although Alexander lost by 24 points, the score does not indicate how well those ladies actually played. The Lady Spartans were able to get good shots off, it just seemed as though there was a lid over the basket, and nothing would go in. Alexander shot 5-13 from the line, as opposed to the Lady Bulldogs who shot 55% (5-9).

Athens freshmen guard Dominique Doseck led all scores with 12 points, as well as playing a key role as a leader for the Lady Bulldogs squad. Alexander guard Ally Malone added six points for the Lady Spartans, and provided some much needed energy.

This win puts Athens at 7-4, providing the Lady Bulldogs with some momentum as they prepare to travel to Groveport-Madison High School this Monday (1/9) at 8:00 pm.
