Ohio Notches Eighth Straight MAC Win
< < Back toThe Ohio Bobcats extend their winning streak to eight matches by defeating the Northern Illinois Huskies 3-1 (15-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-15).
“Set two without a doubt was our most important set”, said head coach Ryan Theis
In the second set, the Bobcats trailed for most of the set. Ohio was down by as many as four points. But they fought back to tie the Huskies late in the set at 21-21. The two sides traded points until the score was 24-24. Then sophomore Chelsea Bilger put the set away with two kills.
The Bobcats proved to be tough in the third set. They would never trail in the set. Although the Huskies would come close they just could not get over the edge. Northern Illinois would tie it up half way through the set at 12-12 and would tie it up late at 21-21, but the Bobcats would pull through winning the third set by a score of 25-22.
In the fourth set Ohio finished the way Northern Illinois started. The Bobcats jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start the set and never looked back as the Huskies failed to close the gap to less than five points. Ohio would win the set 25-15.
The key offensive player for the Bobcats was Kelly Lamberti who accounted for 20.5 of Ohio’s 68 points and 17 kills. Libero Meredith Ashy was active on defense with 24 digs.
Coach Theis feels his team needs to improve on serving if Ohio is to be effective in future games. The Bobcats had just three aces to eight service errors in Friday’s win.
Ohio looks to extend its winning streak tomorrow night against Western Michigan in Athens at 7:00 p.m.
