Ohio is beefing up its investigations into the source of drugs or alcohol when they're suspected of being the cause of serious or fatal wrecks.

Ohio Public Safety Director Tom Charles said the state owes it to families who have lost a loved one to learn all the facts that led to the tragedy.

While Ohio troopers will continue to focus on drivers suspected of being impaired, state investigative agents now will look for possible criminal violations stemming from the source of drugs or alcohol that led to the impairment.

The state also is announcing special investigations into suspected human trafficking in liquor establishments and investigations of serious violations of Ohio's liquor laws.

The state says nearly 400 people are killed each year in alcohol-involved crashes.
