More than two dozen people have been arrested as part of a two-day sweep to ensure that sex offenders in West Virginia and Kentucky are complying with registration laws.

Federal and state authorities announced the results of the law enforcement blitz on Monday afternoon in Huntington. The news conference was led by U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin, U.S. Marshals John Foster of West Virginia and Loren Carl of Kentucky, and West Virginia State Police Superintendent Col. Jay Smithers.

Officials say the compliance checks of nearly 500 registered sex offenders resulted in 18 arrests in southern West Virginia and seven arrests and two citations in eastern Kentucky.
