The number of deer killed during West Virginia's various seasons declined slightly last year.

But the number of turkeys killed during the fall season increased.

The Division of Natural Resources said Monday that hunters killed 131,444 deer during the bucks-only, antlerless, muzzleloader, archery and youth/Class Q seasons. That's down 3 percent from the 135,696 deer killed in 2011.

Last year's deer total includes 56,658 killed during the bucks-only season and 45,169 killed during the antlerless deer season.

Hunters killed 1,233 turkeys during the fall season, compared to 1,186 killed in 2011.
