Parkersburg fire officials are crediting the barking of a dog with saving a woman from a possibly deadly fire Sunday morning.

Fire Chief Eric Taylor says the blaze broke out Sunday on Juliana Street around 6:30 a.m.

The woman inside the home woke up to her dog barking and her house completely filled with smoke and flames.

Taylor says there were no smoke detectors in the house and the woman was trapped in a second floor bedroom.

Firefighters used a ladder to rescue her.

The woman suffered smoke inhalation.

The dog did not make it out alive.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze, which resulted in about $100,000 in damage to the house.
