Jurors Reach Verdict On Two Counts In Shifflet Trial

UPDATE 4:00 PM  A Glouster man accused of sexually molesting five young girls will be held at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on a $500,000 cash bond while he awaits sentencing.

Jurors found Thomas Shifflet, 76, guilty on one count of gross sexual imposition with a child under the age of 13 and not guilty on one count of sexual imposition.

Jurors are hung on two of the remaining counts of gross sexual imposition and one count of rape. 

Jurors had been in 19 hours of deliberations since Friday.

Shifflet will be classified as a Tier II sexual predator and could face between one and five years in prison.

Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said he will be speaking with the families about the other counts and what their desire is and make a decision on whether or not to go forward.
