Logging Company Cited For 18 Violations After Fatal Accident

The federal government has cited a Ripley, West Virginia logging company for 18 violations after a logger was fatally struck by a tree.

The Occupational Safety and health Administration says Best Logging was cited for 14 serious violations and four other violations at a Rock Castle work site.

Among the deficiencies were failure to ensure employees wore protective gear and remained within visual or audible contact with each other. The company also was cited for training violations and other problems.

The company faces $39,000 in proposed penalties. It has 15 days to comply or contest the citations.
