Ohio University linebacker Jovon Johnson earned Week 2 Defensive Player of the Week honors in the Mid-American Conference after Ohio's win over the North Texas Mean Green on Saturday.

Johnson led the Bobcat defense with a fumble recovery and returned an interception for a 42-yard touchdown that gave Ohio a 21-7 the lead in the first half.  The Bobcats also held North Texas to 2.7 yards per rush, due in large part to Johnson’s effort on Saturday night. After giving up 615 yards last week to Louisville, the Bobcats held the Mean Green to under 300 yards of total offense. Johnson’s pair of tackles, interception and fumble recovery helped the Bobcats bounce back and beat North Texas 27-21, improving to 1-1 on the season.

Johnson, a redshirt sophomore, made the first start of his collegiate career against the Mean Green with captain Keith Moore out with injury. He has six tackles on the season. Johnson and the 'Cats look to continue their winning ways against Marshall on Saturday night in the Battle for the Bell. Kickoff from Peden Stadium is set for 8:00 p.m.
